The first batch of Vaccines donated by the Chinese government brought on board Maldivian

The COVID-19 vaccine developed by China's Sinopharm was approved for emergency use in the Maldives on 15th March by the Maldives Food and Drug Administration.


The 1st batch of the vaccines arrived late night on the 24th of March on board Maldivian Airbus A321. The 2nd batch of vaccines is scheduled to be received by the 30th of March.

"I would like to thank Minister Naseem and the officials at the Ministry of Health for their hard work and due diligence in ensuring that the necessary approvals and arrangements were in place to bring the vaccines". Said Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid


"I would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the Managing Director of Island Aviation Services Limited and his team, for the excellent manner in which they have undertaken this difficult task". - said Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid

National airline Maldivian operated a special flight to Beijing, China in order to bring the vaccines.
