The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) hosted a ceremony on Thursday to award certificates to participants who completed Maldives’s first aerodrome control training.
This is the first training conducted at the Velana International Airport's newly established aerodrome simulator which consists of a 240° five-channel monitor-based 3D tower and radar simulator.
The nine-week course attended by eight staff members was taught by internationally and nationally qualified instructors in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization's criteria (ICAO).
The training was designed to meet the workforce requirements at Velana International and domestic and International airport towers in the Maldives.
During the ceremony chief guest Mr Ibrahim Thoha, MACL's acting emphasized the critical nature of air traffic control training and education.
He also said that with the introduction of ATC courses the company has saved millions of Ruffiya which would have otherwise been spent on training abroad and he specifically said that even for this training nearly half a million Rufiyya was saved.
