The Bayraktar TB2 is a medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) developed by the Turkish company Baykar Makina Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş.
Maldivian government recently made purchase of multiple Bayraktar TB2 drones introducing Air Corps under Maldives National Defence Force.
The TB2 operates autonomously and is capable of launching missiles and can be remotely controlled or operate autonomously. The drone is monitored and controlled by an aircrew in a ground control station, including weapons employment.
By November 2021, the TB2 drone had completed 400,000 flight hours globally with the Turkish military as the largest operator with export model sold to the militaries of several other countries.

The Bayraktar TB2 is remarkably affordable compared to other high-end drones that can cost up to $20 million per drone.
It was widely reported that $37 million was spend by the Maldivian government for the total purchase of the drones at a rate of $5 million each.
The exact official cost of the TB2 drone remains undisclosed however, various estimates suggest that each TB2 drone falls within the range of $2 million to $5 million, depending on the specific equipment associated with the purchase.
Reports from other countries, including the UAE and Kuwait were also said to have cost between USD 2 million and USD 5 million on various reports with no definite cost information published.
Maldivian government has not disclosed information regarding the drone purchase. This purchase came amid rising tensions with India and President Muizzu has formally requested to withdraw Indian troops from the Maldives, solidifying with his election pledge.
