The newly constructed apron area at Hanimaadhoo International Airport has been put into operation. This follows the commencement of operations on the partially opened new runway.
As part of the comprehensive project underway at the airport, a 2,400-meter runway is currently under construction. Alongside the runway, the project includes the establishment of passenger terminal, a cargo terminal, a fuel farm, and a fire-fighting facility.
Presently, a 1,200-meter section of the new runway is operational, catering to domestic flight operations. Simultaneously, the newly constructed apron area serves for aircraft movement, replacing the old apron that has been in use for over three decades.
In the coming weeks, the old apron will be completely phased out, making way for the remaining portion of the new runway.
