Under the Hanimaadhoo International Airport’s development project, a new long 2,400m runway is being constructed.
To continue flight operations at the airport, a 1,200m part of the runway is set to be opened next Sunday. This would allow for the continued operations of domestic flights to Hanimaadhoo.
The USD 136 million project will see the construction of a 2,400m runway with a new passenger terminal, cargo terminal, fuel farm, and fire fighting facility. The new runway will allow for narrow-body jet operations like the Airbus A320 and the Boeing 737.
On completion, the airrport would have the capacity to handle 1.3 million passengers annually.
