IndiGo, a low-cost carrier based in India, is reportedly finalizing a massive airplane order worth nearly USD 25 billion. The order is said to include 500 Airbus A320 family jet planes, surpassing Air India’s recent order of 470 airplanes.
IndiGo is a low-cost carrier based in India. It is India’s largest passenger airline and offers flights to over 75 domestic destinations and 26 international destinations.
IndiGo currently holds a 56% share of the domestic Indian market and is in discussions with both Airbus and Boeing for future orders. As the largest airline in India in terms of passengers carried, IndiGo is also expanding its long-haul operations by wet leasing three Boeing 777-300ERs through a partnership with Turkish Airlines to connect Europe.
The new order from IndiGo is a significant development for the aviation industry and highlights the carrier’s ambitious growth plans. With a strong presence in the domestic market and expanding long-haul operations, IndiGo is well-positioned to continue its success in the highly competitive Indian aviation market.
