Universal Hydrogen’s Dash8 Receives Special Airworthiness Certificate From FAA

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the USA has given experimental airworthiness certificate for Universal Hydrogen’s Hydrogen-powered Dash8.

With the FAA’s experimental airworthiness certificate, the Dash8 will be able to take off before the end of February.

Universal Hydrogen completed initial ground taxi tests last Friday and later on Monday, the engine propellers were tested at full RPM.

The Dash8 is fitted with a megawatt-class hydrogen fuel cell powertrain in one of the nacelles.

The company aims to provide a conversion kit for both Dash8 and ATR 72 to fly on hydrogen.

Operational tests of its hydrogen delivery system were also carried out last December at its engineering center in Toulouse, France.
