Royal Thai Police DHC6 Twin Otter Crashes Near Hua Hin Airport

A tragic accident occurred near Hua Hin Airport, Thailand, involving a Royal Thai Police Viking DHC-6-400 Twin Otter. The crash, which happened shortly after takeoff on April 25, 2025, claimed the lives of five occupants with one in critical condition.

The aircraft was carrying out a routine test flight in preparation for a parachute training drill when it unfortunately plunged into the sea near Cha-am Beach in Phetchaburi province. Among those onboard were highly skilled officers responsible for ensuring readiness for future operations.


A video capturing the tragic crash surfaced online which shows the aircraft plunging into the sea shortly after takeoff.

Pol Lt Gen Archayon Kraithong, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, confirmed the fatalities and mentioned that one individual may have survived initially but succumbed later to injuries sustained in the accident. The updated casualty count reflects five confirmed fatalities.


Authorities have launched an in-depth investigation to determine the cause of the crash.


The Viking DHC-6-400 Twin Otter is renowned for its versatility and reliability, particularly in short take-off and landing operations. Powered by twin Pratt & Whitney PT6A-34 engines and equipped with advanced avionics, the aircraft is widely used for tasks ranging from troop transport to search-and-rescue missions.
