Two decommissioned Air Maldives Dornier Do 228 aircraft have been submerged in Kaafu Kudagiri Lagoon as part of an ambitious project aimed at developing a dive wreck site.

This initiative is a result of a collaboration between the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), and the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
Once pivotal to the operations of the nation’s airline, these aircraft have been retired to give way to more modern models. Now, they are being transformed into underwater attractions in their new roles as artificial reefs.
The Dornier Do 228, renowned for its versatility and reliability, is well-suited for this venture. The carefully executed submersion process ensures that the aircraft are prepared to encourage marine life settlement while providing an intriguing experience for divers.

Positioned at the Kudagiri, these submerged aircraft are set to serve as a vibrant underwater ecosystem, fostering marine biodiversity while also boosting the Maldives’ reputation as a world-class diving destination.
Divers and enthusiasts can look forward to exploring this unique underwater site.
