American Airlines Flight AA292, operating from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in New Delhi, made an emergency diversion to Rome following a reported threat.

The aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, was en route over European airspace when authorities received information regarding a possible threat. In response, the flight crew coordinated with air traffic control and made the decision to divert to Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) as a precautionary measure.
As the aircraft approached Rome, it was met by Italian Air Force Eurofighter jets, which escorted it to ensure a secure landing. The presence of fighter jets indicates the seriousness of the situation, as such measures are typically taken in response to credible threats involving aviation security.
At this time, there have been no reports of injuries or disturbances onboard. American Airlines has yet to release an official statement regarding the nature of the threat, but authorities in Rome are expected to conduct a thorough security inspection of the aircraft and passengers before clearing the flight for further travel.
