In an innovative, authorities have announced plans to use two former Air Maldives Dornier Do 228 aircraft to create a new dive site. The aircraft, which were previously part of the national airline's fleet, will be repurposed to attract divers and marine life alike.

The Dornier Do 228 aircraft, known for their versatility and reliability, were once a vital part of Air Maldives' operations. With the transition to newer aircraft models, these planes were retired from service. Now, they will find a new lease on life beneath the waves, providing a unique underwater attraction for divers.

The new dive site will be located at the Kudagiri dive site, where the aircraft will be carefully submerged to create an artificial reef. This initiative aims to promote marine conservation and boost tourism by offering divers an exciting and distinctive underwater experience.

Authorities are working closely with marine biologists and environmental experts to ensure that the aircraft are prepared and positioned in a way that minimizes environmental impact and maximizes benefits for marine life.
