On the evening of January 29, 2025, a mid-air collision occurred over the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) involving an American Eagle Bombardier CRJ-700 and a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. The incident took place around 9:00 PM local time as the CRJ-700, operating as Flight 5342 from Wichita, Kansas, was on approach to Runway 33 at DCA.

Initial reports indicate that the two aircraft collided mid-air, resulting in both crashing into the Potomac River. Emergency response teams, including fireboats from the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, were dispatched to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations. The exact number of occupants on both aircraft has not been confirmed, and authorities have not yet released information regarding casualties or survivors.

In response to the incident, all takeoffs and landings at Reagan National Airport were temporarily suspended to facilitate emergency operations.
