F-35A Fighter Jet Crashes at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska

Earlier today,  a F-35A Lightning II experienced a crash during a training exercise at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska. The incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m.


According to reports the pilot encountered an inflight emergency and the F-35A was observed tumbling vertically before impacting the ground creating to a large fireball. The pilot successfully ejected from the aircraft and is reported to be in stable condition.


A press release from the base states:


“An aircraft incident occurred this afternoon resulting in significant aircraft damage at 12:49 p.m. today. The impact site is known to be on base within the fence line of Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska.

Eielson Air Force Base, situated close to Fairbanks, Alaska, hosts two squadrons of F-35A fighters, totaling 54 aircraft. The base plays a vital role in providing air, space, and cyberspace capabilities, ensuring regional stability and security. Each F-35A aircraft, valued at over $82 million, is a cornerstone of the U.S. Air Force's cutting-edge defense technology.
