A Jeju Air Flight 2216 crashed at Muan International Airport. The Boeing 737-800 aircraft, carrying 181 people, veered off the runway during landing and collided with the airport’s perimeter fence, subsequently catching fire.
The flight, which originated from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, was attempting to land at Muan International Airport when the accident happened. Initial reports indicate that a malfunction in the landing gear caused the aircraft to lose control. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene, but the fire and impact resulted in at least 28 fatalities.
The South Korean government has mobilized additional resources to support the rescue operations and provide assistance to the families. Acting President Choi Sang-mok has ordered an “all-out effort” to manage the crisis and ensure the safety of all involved.
